Director of the Center for the Ministry of Teaching, Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA

Virginia Theological Seminary seeks a Director of the Center for the Ministry of Teaching within the Institute of Christian Formation and Leadership. The Center for the Ministry of Teaching (CMT) supports an on-campus library and curriculum resource center, including a circulating collection of almost 10,000 volumes, as well as extensive DVD and video holdings. In addition to the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum and Episcopal Curriculum for Youth, the Center publishes The Episcopal Teacher (four issues per year). Through the Center, the Seminary offers advanced degrees in Christian Education (MACE), Christian Education with an emphasis in youth ministry (MACE/YM), and Educational Leadership (D.Min.). This is a full-time faculty administrative position. The director will have oversight of the Center and will teach courses at the master’s and doctoral level in Christian education, faith development, and other aspects of practical theology related to education and formation in congregational or school settings. He or she will also participate, as appropriate and needed, in continuing education offerings and non-degree programs offered through ICFL. Qualifications include a deep commitment to Christ, a heart for parish-based religious education in an ecumenical context, supervisory experience, and close familiarity with the Episcopal Church. Applicants should have an earned Ph.D., Th.D., or Ed.D. degree. Applications are welcome from candidates with D.Min. degrees who can demonstrate teaching and/or administrative experience in a diocesan/judicatory, seminary or university setting. Excellent writing and speaking skills are essential, as well as familiarity with the use of digital technology. All full-time faculty members must live in faculty housing on campus.

Professor of Christian Education and Formation, Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, Austin, Texas

Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified candidate to a new professorial chair in Christian Education and Formation. The Professor of Christian Education and Formation will teach within all degree programs, both full and part-time, and will also contribute to a certificate program in parish and youth education. The successful candidate will develop and teach courses in areas such as the theory and history of Christian formation; developmental approaches to Christian education; catechetics; youth and children’s ministry; pedagogy; and in the Church as a formative community. This new faculty member will establish and direct a program of short courses and workshops in Christian Education and Formation for those seeking continuing education, including clergy. Candidates should have a D. Min., or a Ph.D. in Christian education or a closely related field of theological study. Experience of parochial leadership is an advantage and familiarity and sympathy with the Anglican tradition essential. A person of lively faith, the successful candidate will have a passion for the education and formation of Christians of all ages and across a diversity of contemporary ecclesial contexts.  The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial three-year contract, renewable for a further three years, and for five-year terms, thereafter. Though this position is not tenurable, salary, benefits, and terms of promotion are the same as those for tenure-track and tenured faculty. The appointment is to begin June 1, 2008. Pastoral or Practical Theology, Fordham University, New York

The Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education of Fordham University is pleased to announce a tenure track position in Pastoral or Practical Theology. Applicants should have a doctorate in Pastoral/Practical Theology (or equivalent theological education, expertise in Pastoral/Practical theology, relevant pastoral experience as well as secondary expertise in one or more of the following: moral theology/Christian ethics, spirituality and liturgy. The successful applicant will be involved in the DMin program which comprises specializations in pastoral ministry, pastoral counseling, and spiritual direction/spirituality. Salary and rank will be based on experience and professional accomplishments. Duties include teaching in the DMin program, advisement and mentoring of students, some administrative tasks as well as professional and scholarly activities. Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in Christian Education to begin July 1, 2008. 

A successful candidate:

• Must possess a Ph.D., Th.D., Ed.D., or D.Min. degree with significant emphasis in Christian formation and teaching with an interdisciplinary background in the practices of ministry focusing on the place of ritual life in the African American church. • Must demonstrate congregational and ecumenical experience in spiritual formation and a liberating praxis. • May be ordained or lay with experience and involvement at the local congregational level. • Must be an effective educator with evidence of being a contributing scholar. • The successful candidate will demonstrate competence in some combination of the following areas: use of technology in teaching and ministry, knowledge of popular culture and post-modern/emerging church development particularly in the African American church experience and multi-cultural contexts, formation of persons for discipleship and ministry, educational ministry that includes both inter-generational and life cycle approaches (education of children, youth, adults, and senior adults).

Assistant or Associate Professor position in Religious/Catechetics, Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.
