Luther Seminary is seeking a theologically reflective and imaginative person for a tenure-eligible position in Congregational and Community Care Leadership. Candidates should have ministry experience and be committed to communal-contextual and intercultural paradigms of pastoral care. Candidates should demonstrate the capacity to relate theology with psychology and other social sciences in caring for persons, congregations, and communities. The ability and willingness to give theological leadership in a Lutheran seminary committed to the missional character of the Christian faith is essential.
Responsibilities include teaching foundational and elective courses in Congregational and Community Care leadership in a variety of academic programs: M.A., M.Div., and advanced theological degree programs. Capacity to collaborate in the portfolio-based vocational formation of students in an innovative educational culture is expected. The ability to engage in effective web-based and web-enhanced teaching and learning is required. A Ph.D. in pastoral care, congregational ministry, practical theology or the equivalent is required. The person selected may be eligible for appointment to the George Weinman Chair in Pastoral Theology and Ministry and will serve in the faculty’s Leadership Division.

Founded in 1869, Luther Seminary is faithful to its mission of educating leaders for Christian communities. As one of the eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the seminary prepares about a third of the ELCA’s pastors and a growing number of lay leaders for ministry.
