Joy and Adolescent Faith & Flourishing Assoc. Research Scholar

The Yale Center for Faith & Culture is building a team of research scholars to advance an interdisciplinary project on the Theology of Joy and the Good Life. As a member of this team, the Joy and Adolescent Faith & Flourishing Scholar will:

  • Direct, under the leadership of Prof. Volf and in collaboration with the Joy and Adolescent Faith and Flourishing (JAFF) Advisory Board, the Center’s Adolescent Faith and Flourishing program, including the JAFF sub-project of the Theology of Joy and the Good Life project.
  • Author and submit for publication scholarly articles that advance the sub-project research agenda.
  • Frame the intellectual agenda for the JAFF lecture series and symposia by writing case statements and identifying and recruiting participants.
  • Occasionally teach Center-supported courses (e.g., the Yale College Life Worth Living seminar).
  • Edit volumes of contributing scholar essays.
  • Develop a network of researchers beyond Yale who generate a collaborative research agenda that advances sub-project goals.
  • Author and submit for publication popular articles year that communicate sub-project insights to the broader public.
  • Support sub-granting and prize competitions.

The position is a 3-year faculty appointment at Yale Divinity School under the direction of Miroslav Volf, principal investigator. The Divinity School hopes to make an appointment of a junior scholar with a record of distinguished scholarship and a commitment to theological education. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. Possible fields include (but are not limited to):

  • Youth Ministry
  • Adolescent Development
  • Psychology
  • Christian Education

Exceptional ABDs will also be considered. The mission of the Center for Faith & Culture is not just to produce world-class scholarship but also to connect the insights of that scholarship to the real lives of people in churches and the broader culture. The ideal candidate will have experience and passion for “giving ideas legs” and communicating in educational, ecclesial, and popular contexts in ways that generative transformational change.
